Works in Progress: Nocturne, Texas Road

Nocturne: Texas Road. 12" x 24". In Progress.

I'm working on 16 paintings in the studio right now and this is one I'm very excited about. It's to be a nocturne, of a highway in Texas (82, just outside of Clarksville.)

When I was a child we lived in Biloxi Mississippi and when I was 20 I spent the summer in Destin, Florida. These flat horizons, the heavy air and the deeply colored skies at dusk lie deep in my memories.

Well, well..I'm am looking forward to seeing this one develop! Is this from when you and Dottie went out cruising?

Hi Deborah - it is from the night Dottie took me driving around to see the light and the moon. I may start another one - a spot Dottie preferred closer to your house because the trees were crowding in on the road. I of course found them to be a little menacing, but that might make it more interesting.

My favorite art inventory system

Over the past couple of years I've looked at and played with a lot of computer programs for keeping track of artwork. Here are past blog posts on the subject: Art Inventory Systems, here's what I've tried and then this Update on Art Inventory Systems Alyson Stanfield has also written about this riveting subject on her great blog here . I come to these systems with built-in bias. I prefer a FileMaker based system to an Access based system because I think it's a more powerful and smoother software to use. I'd worked for a nonprofit that used Filemaker and it's what I know. I also prefer a system without goofy graphics. I'm an artist. I care how things look. If I open up software every couple of days I would like it to be clean and simple and not ugly. But computers evolve and the next direction is to the cloud.
